Asexual Perspectives is part of AVEN's static content, aiming to personalize asexuality, because the best way to understand asexuality is to understand the personal experiences of people who identify as asexual. A major aim of Asexual Perspectives is to personalize asexuality in a way that the generic information that AVEN provides on the front page cannot.
Asexual Perspectives was first started in November 2004 and was updated periodically until March 2007. In January 2009, AVEN's frontpage was redesigned with the goal of having more dynamic content. As part of this, Asexual Perspectives was revived and new articles were posted throughout 2009. At the time, Asexual Perspectives was run by the AVENite Ghosts, who was a moderator. After Ghosts stepped down from being a mod, updates to Asexual Perspectives temporarily ceased.
When the 2010-2011 Project team was elected, the AVENite mandrewliter volunteered to be in charge of Asexual Perspectives.
Instructions for contributors
If you would like to contribute something to Asexual Perspectives, please contact mandrewliter about the matter. The following are some general ideas to keep in mind:
1) Different things with click with different people (and different things click with the same person at different times), which is one reason why it is important to have multiple perspectives represented. Also, we want to make it clear that there is no single “if you’re asexual, this is what your life is supposed to look like” master narrative. There is quite a bit of diversity in the asexual community, and we would like Asexual Perspectives to reflect that.
2) Pieces for Asexual Perspectives should focus on personal experience/feelings having something to do with asexuality and the author. They should be written such that they would be appropriate for people who just found AVEN, and all they know about asexuality is what they see on the front page and on the overview page.
3) For ideas about what to write and about appropriate length, please see the pieces currently posted under Asexual Perspectives.
